Intake vortex modeling
Galuška, Jiří ; Kozák, Jiří (referee) ; Rudolf, Pavel (advisor)
This paper covers information research of basic design rules of industrial wet sumps. It describes mathematical models of vortices and method for their identification and visualization. Then the author focuses on CFD modeling of surface vortices with single phase and multiphase approach with Volume of Fluid method. Basic principles of multiphase CFD modelling in OpenFOAM and ANSYS Fluent are given. Description and benchmarking of suitable turbulence models is also present. The single phase and multiphase approach were successfully validated for a simple test case of bathtub surface vortex. Satisfactory agreement with experimental data was achieved. The accuracy and behavior of both solvers were compared between each other. This gives us useful tool for evaluation of inflow condition and danger of surface vortex occurrence in wet sumps. The acquired knowledges were used to design an experimental test case with geometry similar to industrial wet sump. A map of surface vortex occurrence has been created for different operating points. One of the operating point has been used for numerical simulation (both single phase and multiphase). Partial agreement with experimental observation has been achieved.
Aeroacoustic simulation of human phonation with the wale sub-grid scale model
Šidlof, Petr ; Lasota, M.
The paper reports on an aeroacoustic model of voice generation in human larynx, based on Large Eddy Simulation with the Wall-Adapting Local Eddy-Viscosity (WALE) sub-grid scale (SGS) model. The simulation uses a three-step hybrid approach, with an incompressible finite volume CFD computation providing the filtered velocity and pressure, evaluation of the aeroacoustic sources, and simulation of the sound propagation by finite element discretization of the Acoustic Perturbation Equations. The WALE SGS model is used to overcome the limitation of the classical Smagorinski SGS model, which overpredicts the SGS viscosity in regions of high shear, especially within the boundary layer in the glottal constriction. Results of the 3D CFD simulation, location of the aeroacoustic sources and the spectra of the radiated sound for two vowels are presented.

Numerical experiments with the turbulent flow through the DCA 8% cascade
Trefilík, Jiří ; Kozel, Karel ; Příhoda, Jaromír
The work is concerned with the development of a numerical method for a simulation of transonic turbulent flow and the simulation of the flow through the DCA 8% cascade. For turbulence modelling the algebraic Baldwin-Lomax model and the two-equation standard and modified (SST) models were employed and the numerical results are presented.
Numerical simulations of turbulent flow through DCA 8% cascade
Trefilík, Jiří ; Kozel, K. ; Příhoda, Jaromír
The work deals with further development of numerical methods for simulation of transonic turbulent flows through the DCA 8% cascade. Results of numerical experiments modelling the viscous and inviscid flows in a cascade with various inlet Mach numbers are compared and discussed. For turbulence modelling the algebraic Baldwin-Lomax model and two- equation standard k-ω and TNT k-omega models were employed.

Trefilík, Jiří ; Kozel, K. ; Příhoda, Jaromír
The work deals with the development of numerical methods for simulation of transonic turbulent flows through the DCA 8% cascade and over the 18% thick circular arc biconvex airfoil. Results of numerical experiments modelling the viscous and inviscid flows in the cascade with the inlet Mach numbers M = 0.87 and 0.96 and over the airfoil with M =0.775 are compared and discussed. The two-equation k-omega model and the algebraic Baldwin-Lomax model were employed for turbulence modelling and their numerical results were compared.

Trefilík, J. ; Kozel, K. ; Příhoda, Jaromír
The work deals with the developement of numerical methods for simulation of subsonic and transonic turbulent flows in the GAMM channel and through the DCA 8% cascade. Results of numerical modelling of viscous and inviscid flows with the inlet Mach numbers M = 0.6, 0.675 and 0.85 are compared and discussed. For turbulence modelling one equation algebraic Baldwin-Lomax model and two equations k-omega model were applied and their numerical results were compared.
Numerical solution of flow over 2D backward facing step with different inclination angle
Louda, P. ; Sváček, P. ; Kozel, K. ; Příhoda, Jaromír
The finite-volume and finite-element techniques are used for the numerical simulation of the incompressible turbulent flows in a closed channel with a backward-facing step and with an inclined step under the angle 45 degree. A comparison of the finite-volume method based on the averaged Navier-Stokes equations closed by the explicit algebraic Reynolds stress model and the finite-element method using the Navier-Stokes equations with the two-equation k-eps model is presented. Numerical results are compared with experimental data of Makiola (1992).
Prediction of turbulent flow over the inclined step by means of various two-equation turbulence models
Janeček, Vladislav ; Příhoda, Jaromír
The work deals with the numerical simulation of turbulent flow over an inclined step in a channel of the rectangular cross-section according to measurement of Makiola (1992). The simulation was carried out by means of the commercial software ANSYS FLUENT with users defined functions. Various two-equation turbulence models based on the k-eps formulation were tested with the aim to estimate their ability to predict the extent of the separation region and energy losses due to inclined step with the angle 15 deg. Numerical results were compared with experimental data from LDA measurements. Besides, determined energy losses were compared with losses in a channel with a backward-facing step.
Simulace pohybu velkých vírů při volném proudu
Louda, Petr ; Kozel, K. ; Příhoda, Jaromír
The work deals with large eddy simulation (LES) of incompressible plane free jet issued from a slot nozzle. The mathematical model is based on filtered Navier-Stokes equations. The sub-grid turbulence is modelled by Smagorinsky eddy viscosity model. The numerical solution is carried out by a finite-difference method. The time discretization uses second order accurate 3-stage Runge Kutta scheme. The Poisson equation is used for the estimation of pressure. Various boundary conditions are tested for 2D free jet flow with the Reynolds number Re= 30000. The initial velocity field is randomly perturbed by divergence-free velocity field with maximum value of 0.03Uo.
